I love a good pair of fuzzy slipper socks so when I saw these, I had to have them! Because it has been on average 85 degrees daily here in Chicago, these socks will not be useful to me at present, however, when winter hits and we start to have an average temperature of 20 degrees, these socks will be my everything! I was a little apprehensive ordering these because I wear a size 10 shoe and I have wide calves, so I was worried that they would either not fit altogether or they would fit my foot but not my calves; fortunately my worries were dispelled when I tried them on and they fit perfectly! They are incredibly soft on the inside and super warm. I typically wear slippers religiously, but find that these socks will be just as good, if not better, to wear around the house because they are fleece lined, have little rubber grips on the bottom, and instead of just covering my feet, extend up my leg to provide extra warmth to the lower part of my calves. They are thinner to walk on than slippers and definitely not meant to use outdoors, but for indoor use they are a great alternative to slippers. Unfortunately, I do have a problem with these socks though…they arrived in an undamaged box, but when I opened it and pulled the socks out, I immediately noticed that there were pulled and loose strings on both of the socks. I didn’t think that this might be an issue when ordering them because I assumed they were made of a tighter knitted fabric using a stockinette stitch which has a smoother texture, but these socks are made using a seed stitch which gives them a ribbed texture which also makes them more susceptible to having strings come loose on their own, especially if snagged. The biggest concern about them being made this way is how they will respond to washing/drying so, having had similar socks like this before and learning from experience, I will give you some advice…If you are going to wash them in your wash machine, make sure to turn them inside out and put them into a mesh laundry bag independently, do not put anything else in the bag, wash them in cold water on the delicate cycle using a mild detergent made for delicate items, do not use fabric softener, it will make the fleece more dense and less fluffy. After washing, let the socks air dry by laying them flat on a towel or hanging them, they can be put in the dryer, but I would really really encourage you not to do that because it completely changes the feel of the socks. If you are going to dry them in the dryer, put it on the lowest heat setting and if you have the option, set it to delicate and proceed.It may seem like more work to care for these socks, but I can say from experience that if you properly care for them, they will last you a long time. As for the loose strings on the pair I ordered, as long as I do not pull the string, they should be fine. I just must be conscientious about making sure I do not snag them any further and risk making it worse. Overall, I think this is a good pair of socks. They have a great warmth factor and fit very well even for someone like me who has wide calves. While I cannot wear these socks now, I am looking forward to wearing them in coming weeks when it begins to get colder!
